How many speak in our

mother tongue?

Dear Editor,

This is in response to news item under the heading "Siram urges centre to include Arunachal languages in Bharat Bhasa Vikas Yojna" which is a good idea.

The languages of Arunachal are endangered and who is responsible? We are!!!! It is the time to do something to preserve our languages. Today if our languages are endangered, it’s not because of anyone but because of ourselves.

How many of us use our tribal language to communicate among your fellow tribe friends? Answer would be only few. Today how many of the parents of urban areas use own language at home with their children?

Again the answer would be few. Now how many high school or college students speak their own language with people of the same tribe? Again the answer would be few. The reason-they are shy to speak their language as if they were born at some western countries. The other possible reason is they dont know because since childhood their parent taugh them Hindi or Assamese. No one will teach us our own language unless parents start at home.

If the same trend continues, the time is not so far to read in history syllabus the names of Arunachal languages. Dear parents, you can bring a change.

Yours,

D. Hania.

Messages far detached from

the truth

Dear Editor,

Through the column of your esteemed daily and with a begging of an apology to the concerned people this article is directed to, I would like to express my hard-lined view, as I feel it may also be the true perception of any common person of our state.

Like every year, this year too, on the occasion of the World Environment Day, the Governor, the CM and the Environment Minister relayed to the state the message of environment bounty of our state, the commitment towards its protection and the harnessing of its resources in a sustainable manner.

The messages, with an irony, under the symbol and the motive ‘satyameva jayate’, are far detached from the truth around. Detached, I call it so, because, the messages of biodiversities and sustainability are invalidated long back when the irresponsible people have sounded the death knell by allowing reckless mining of natural resources, signing of hydro power MoUs, logging of virgin forests, mindless collection of river boulders, etc. without ever addressing their devastating consequences on the environment.

Take a trouble by stepping down from your vehicle when you see some dark foot prints by the side of the road while ever travelling to district headquarter Changlang, follow them and you will find a cleverly hidden coal depot by some bamboo grooves. That is how our environment caretakers are committing themselves to papers, faraway from the ground realities.

Kharsang the treasure trove of the black gold-coal and petroleum, if you would have had visited recently, you would have had a sore eye seeing the plundering of the natural covering of the mountains that used to be covered with green forest. I wonder how sustainable are the planners and the profit makers going to make the environment for the poor villagers there.

Not to mention of the several timber saw mills packed in a single stretch of compound that are working full time on the other side of the Namchik river. The verdict of the supreme court of India failed to make any impact beyond the huge gates of the mills’ compound. Consequently, the felling of trees is same or even worse not sparing even the few years’ old immature trees.

True to our position in the top of the ecological pyramid, we are outright consumers that know only to gather and consume and hardly able to provide anything to our environment back. The greedy planners and the profiteers are as good as the owner in the story ‘the golden egg laying chicken’. Out of his greediness the owner killed the chicken thinking that he can get all the golden eggs at one go instead of nurturing it for it to keep laying the golden eggs for a long time.

We all agree that development comes at a cost, but, the cost must not be so high as to obliterate the existence of our whole future generations. Mindless exploitation of our environment is like committing a homicide, an act that will slowly but certainly kill the future generations by choking the environment that might have sustained them otherwise.

Try to ponder deeply, that, we are living in a unique planet called earth. We must not think that the action in some far of place will not affect us here or our action here will not affect some far of place. Countries are bounded, not the planet earth.

Yours

Tangmi

Chaotic Baba

Dear Editor,

This is with reference to the various events following the midnight raid on Baba Ramdev and his supporters. There cannot be two opinions on stopping  corruption as it has penetrated every system in the country. It depends on a person’s will to remain non-corrupt and Baba  Ramdev is no  exception. I feel  he did not deserve the importance the government gave him. Top ministers went to meet him as the government did not want any trouble. It is   unfortunate  that  Baba Ramdev took this as a sign that he had become very big. His concept of black money seems to be that one can go to the Swiss banks and bring  the list of depositors here to be punished. He conveniently forgets that for the Swiss banks it is all white money. Let Baba Ramdev focus on yoga and serve humanity instead of disturbing law and order.

Yours,

R.D.Thongdok

APSCW enquiry committee on Daporijo MMS scandal reveal startling details

ASI Bo and Head Constable Duyu Tatu accused in rape cases too

ITANAGAR, June 8: The 3-member enquiry committee constituted by Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) to investigate the infamous Daporijo MMS case  has found ASI B. Bo  guilty of forcing two minors to commit immoral act in public place and held him prime accused of the whole episode.

“ASI Bo and Head Constable Duyu Tatu, who had track record of criminal activities, Constable Rajesh Nayam and Constable Tapor Naroh have committed heinous crime by forcing two minors to perform sexual act in public place and taking  its photograph with ulterior motive which is contrary to their pledge of allegiance to uphold the rule of law and prevent crime in the society as a member of law enforcing authority,” the committee headed by APSCW vice chairperson, in its  report submitted to APSCW after conducting a thorough inquiry into the whole episode,  said. Prior to the MMS scandal, both Bo and Duyu were accused of rape cases and suspended from their services when they were in the rank of constables. However, they were acquitted from the cases on ‘certain grounds,’ the   committee informed.

Questioning the promotion of both the police personnel despite of their criminal track record, the committee demanded for constitution of a  high level inquiry  committee headed by an officer not below the rank of SP, preferably an IPS cadre, to enquire the legitimacy and genuineness of their promotion.

It also questioned as to why the Daporijo Police did not maintain the General Diary (GD) of the police station referring the detention of both the victims since maintenance of GD in police station is a must as it demanded investigation regarding non-maintenance of the GD. It also urged the authority to find out the person (s) and source of the MMS to ascertain that whether it (video clips) was circulated for commercial purpose or other malevolent interest and intentions.

“The Government should provide Rs.5 Lakh each to both the victims on compensation ground for violating their freedom of rights guaranteed to its citizen by the Constitution of India under Art. 12, damaging the career of both the teenagers as well as tarnishing the reputation of the victims’ families by men in uniform, the recommendation letter added.

Meanwhile, it suggested that the judgement of DK Bosu of Supreme Court, which came in light of the abuse of power by police and issues of custodial violence to protect the rights of  the accused, should be strictly followed by all the police stations in the state.

Other suggestions include installation of CCTVs in all police stations, establishment of full-fledged central jails in all the district headquarters, precautionary measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents, full and smooth implementation of Juvenile Justice Board/Child Welfare Committee, including juvenile homes in all the district headquarters. Earlier, briefing the media persons about the whole incident and Commission’s initiative to deliver justice to the victims, APSCW chairperson Komoli Mossang, informed that the  report and recommendation of the enquiry committee were also submitted to the State Chief Minister, Home Minister, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Upper Subansiri SP, DC and  Arunachal Pradesh State Social Welfare Board for immediate action.
